In 1885, St James Episcopal Church was built in La Grange on a lot donated by the Shropshire family for a parish formed in 1855.
It is the only Episcopal Church in continuous use in Fayette County with original furnishings which were handmade by the Rector and congregation. It is still in use today.
Recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark – 1964.
